We are very excited to proudly highlight each quarter one of our outstanding team members! This quarter we are featuring our firm administrator, Debra Clouse! Debra “Deb” is a founding member of The Shealy Group, working with us since 2001. If you’re a current client, you’ve undoubtedly spoken to on the phone or worked directly with Deb and were greeted by her friendly voice and helpful nature.
Deb is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the firm and is also an integral part of our leadership team. Her attention to operational details helps her to take care of our team which allows all of us to better take care of our clients. Deb has over 25 years of experience in a variety of organizations including professional services and consulting, non-profit and corporate companies. She has also recently obtained an Associate’s Degree in Applied Business from Owen Community College – giving us just one more reason to be proud of her!
I recently sat down with Deb to chat with her about her career with The Shealy Group;
Tiffany: You’ve been with the firm since the beginning; what is your proudest moment at The Shealy Group?
Deb: That’s easy…. winning the Richland Area Chamber of Commerce’s Small Business of the Year award (14 employees & under category) in December. It is such an honor to be recognized by members from our community. We are a small group but we work very hard to take care of our clients and give to the community. Being acknowledged for that was definitely a highlight of my career.
Tiffany: What advice do you have for newer team members on success and longevity with The Shealy Group?
Deb: Learn all you can from the more experienced team members and be willing to pitch in to help whenever and however is necessary.
Tiffany: What inspires you to be your best at The Shealy Group as well as outside of work?
Deb: I was blessed with wonderful parents that taught me and showed me by example how to be a good person and worker. They both worked hard and were dedicated to whatever task was at hand. I strive each day to do the same. I truly appreciate the opportunities I have been given both in the workplace and personally and want to repay those opportunities by doing the best I can and being as fair as I can be. I’m a big believer in “The Golden Rule”.
Tiffany: When you were a kid, what did you want your adult profession to be?
Deb: As lots of young girls do I wanted to be a singer, of course! J But I realized early I was way to shy for the spotlight so in high school, I decided I wanted to be an accountant. Although, I took some wrong turns along my path and didn’t become an accountant, I still ended up a part of the industry as an administrator so I’m happy with that.
Tiffany: Now for a fun question! Where is the best place you have ever traveled to? -or- What is your dream vacation destination?
Deb: This is probably the hardest question of all for me because I want to go everywhere! I love to travel and hope to visit all sorts of places in the coming years and in my retirement. I want to be that person that sends pictures from beautiful places around the world!
Deb has been, for all of us at The Shealy Group, much more than our administrator. She’s been a ‘mom’ –as we call her- to help keep us on task, a counselor to listen to and help us navigate through challenges and a loyal friend. For her help, dedication and passion for The Shealy Group, we thank her and appreciate her every day!
